A study has now shown that women can have an orgasm while playing sports, working mainly in their abdominal muscles. Sex is not the only source of intense pleasure!
Female pleasure is definitely misunderstood by scientists. If it has long been misunderstood because in the past researchers were mostly men, the tide has turned and since women have gradually taken place in laboratories. Yet many mysteries still hang on the triggers of this desire.
A new step has still to be taken with the article written by researchers at Indiana University published in a special edition of the journal Sexual and Relationship Therapy. This work is the first to focus on the relationship between physical activity and orgasm in women. And it demonstrates that female orgasm is not just sexual!
They surveyed hundreds of women aged from 18 to 63 who said they had experienced exercise-induced orgasm or sexual pleasure. Nearly half of the women had experienced the symptoms on more than 10 occasions. Abdominal exercises came at the top of the list, accounting for just over half of exercise-induced orgasms.
The abdominal, source of orgasms
When asked about physical activity at the origin of women’s pleasure in the past 90 days, 51.4% of women have mentioned abdominal exercises, while only 26.5% of them have had such an experience when lifting bars. Yoga (20%) , cycling (15.8%), jogging (13.2%) and walking (9.6%) .
Most often, these feelings of pleasure associated with the use of core muscles, the Anglo-Saxons grouped under the name “core”. Thus, as the link between orgasm and sport had already been well reported in blogs and magazines for women, Americans and British were already talking about coregasm.
The machine of pleasure enjoyed by most women is called ”the captain’s chair”. It’s about having to only contact with the world around, forearms resting on an armrest, the feet being in a vacuum, with the aim to raise the legs and bring them to the horizontal.
Research leader Debby Herbenick, said: ‘These data are interesting because they suggest that orgasm is not necessarily a sexual event, and they may also teach us more about the bodily processes underlying women’s experiences of orgasm.’
The pleasure is not necessarily a matter of desire
To avoid any bias related to desire, the researchers also asked the women if during these moments of pleasure, they fantasized or thought about someone they were attracted to. It was not the case with the majority of participants. It is therefore the physical activity itself that caused the sensation of well being.
When open-ended questions, women reported that in general, orgasms tend to occur after a sequence of several abdominal exercises. They recognize a strong personal involvement in the effort. Finally, this phenomenon is not related to the age of the woman, since many women confirmed that they have lived such an experience when they were 7 or 8 years, and one of the study participants was still a virgin.
Still remain many outstanding issues. What is the ratio of women affected by this phenomenon? If we can not forward figures, the authors support the idea that this should not be rare, since their recruitment of subjects was performed in only 5 weeks and on 370 women. Moreover, the link between sport and orgasm had already been reported in scientific literature, but had not been the subject of special investigations. At work between 1948 and 1953 by Alfred Kinsey to know the sexuality of American women, 5% of them had mentioned, without being asked, have already experienced orgasm without sex. How they have not mentioned that spontaneously?
It also ignores the underlying physiological mechanisms. What can be said? Sport, like orgasm, induces an increase in heart and breathing rates and blood pressure. A little slender …
Finally, it raises another issue: the role of orgasm in a evolutionary point of view. If indeed we thought it possible to improve the chances of fertilization, it has been shown that it is not only related to sexuality. Should we see a function or simply a consequence?
For authors, it has the advantage of allowing women to learn about their bodies. Currently, studies show that in general, men have more access than women to orgasm. That’s where the opportunity to offset …
