It is a gigantic project. Europe, China and Central Asian countries are engaged in the construction of a new trade route leading from the Black Sea to the Yellow Sea. It follows the route of the ancient Silk Road, the legendary caravan route by which transited spices and fabrics, and monopolized the East-West trade for centuries, before being supplanted by sea.
Its revival could redistribute the map, at a time when the global economy tips the scales towards the East. Several sections have already been converted into an expressway. Pascal Maître and Pierre Delannoy have traveled this strategic corridor of nearly 5000 kilometers between Azerbaijan and Western China.
