The 10 winners of an original classification were unveiled this May 23, 2012. This is not sports, celebrities or film stars, but many species discovered in 2011. Nearly 200 candidates were competing. They were considered by an international committee of scientists under the leadership of the International Institute for Species Exploration (IISE) located at the University of Arizona (ASU) in the United States. A single criterion was evaluated: the ability of these plants or animals to capture our attention, including sometimes using some quirks.
Discovered in the mountains of Myanmar (formerly Burma), the snub-nosed monkey Rhinopithecus strykeri or Stryker is completely free of nose. This situation is considerably inconvenient when it rains, because it causes the occurrence of nuisance sneezing. Between 260 and 330 persons live on about 270 square kilometers.
